Up Stitch began with the belief that discarded clothing still holds creative and material value. The project addresses textile waste by rethinking old garments as raw material for fabric crafts, encouraging reuse through accessible design. The visual identity and communication system were developed to support learning and participation, translating complex processes into clear instructional media. Through workshops, digital platforms, and educational content, Up Stitch aims to build a community around up-cycling, empowering participants to actively engage with sustainability through making rather than consumption.

Logo DesignThe logo uses a script form to echo the physical qualities of fabric threads. Curved, connected strokes reference stitching and knitting, while the rough texture reflects the irregularity of upcycled T-shirt threads. An upward-ending stroke symbolises transformation and up-cycling.

Colour System
The primary palette draws from human and natural tones — nude to brown and light to dark green — referencing skin, fabric, and sustainability. Sharp orange and blue accents are used selectively to represent clothing materials and highlight key information.
Graphic Language & Illustration
Illustrations feature bumpy lines and rounded edges to reflect the tactile, imperfect nature of fabric crafts. Clothing forms subtly integrate upward and curved shapes, reinforcing ideas of movement and renewal, while staying within a consistent brand palette.

Motion & Instruction DesignInstructional videos open with content-specific motion graphics to create a recognisable visual entry point. Graphic instructions were developed alongside videos for quick reference, supported by research and user testing, particularly for techniques with limited existing resources.

Digital Platform & Photography
The website functions as a playful yet informative hub for instructions and workshops. Photography uses natural light and soft contrast to emphasise texture, tactility, and everyday making.
Workshops & Testing
4 test workshops informed refinements before public launch. To date, 9+ public workshops have been held, each supported by printed booklets combining instructions, textile waste data, and local sustainability references.
